Would you know how to respond if you did? What if there was something you could do to help youth in your community? ABOUT THE COURSE Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is a basic public education program that teaches individuals how to help a youth in crisis or experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. Using an interactive format, this 8-hour course utilizes role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis, provide initial help, and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care. PARTICIPANTS LEARN Risk factors and warning signs of a variety of mental health challenges common among adolescents, including anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, AD/HD, disruptive behavior disorders, and substance use disorder. A core five-step action plan to support an adolescent developing signs and symptoms of mental illness or in an emotional crisis. More Events... 13 Aug 13 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM 31n Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Network 2020-2021 Location: Calendar: Professional Development Register Now This network supports our 31n schools in developing systems for implementation of PBIS, Social Emotional Learning Curriculum, and Direct Mental Health Services for students. Our “BAISD SEL Network” will run throughout the 2019-2020 school year and continue through the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years. The “Behavioral Health Assessment Team” from each qualifying building will be required to be a part of this network. This team will focus on the implementation of the Essential Practices for Literacy Instruction, coordinator of our work with The Reading Now Network (RNN), and evaluation of reading data and alignment of resources to best support our schools. This team will assist in the coordinator of Literacy Rounds and Essential Coaching Practices. The Arts Network partners with Michigan Arts Education Instruction & Assessment (MAEIA), the Office of Academic Excellence, The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, as well as many local organizations to provide content specific professional growth opportunities. Annually, the BAISD sponsors two all-day sessions scheduled in the fall and spring. Additional sessions and workshops are provided throughout the year. The BAISD is proud to sponsor and support this innovative arts initiative. Arts Network Objectives: Provide professional development that supports exceptional arts education. Improve access to arts education within our districts.
